Final Fantasy

A sudden itch had me suddenly procuring a copy of Final Fantasy VII (PC). It was my first Final Fantasy game ever, and what got me to actually buy a Playstation.

So as the familiar Squaresoft logo flashed onscreen with the chocobo horde running across it, a wave of nostalgia hit me. Ahh, the good ol' days...

Then the title screen flashed momentarily and the whole nostalgia factor decided to take a break. 1997? Wait a second, this game is 10 years old? One whole decade? What the-

Suddenly, I felt old.

The dated graphics didn't help, either. What was once cutting-edge technology has now been relegated to the laughable attempts at realism of yesteryear. Luckily I was able to download a patch which updated the character models with higher polygon counts.

Less nostalgic factor, perhaps, but I'm trying to make myself feel younger here. It's not working, though. I'm OLD. -depressed-

(And yet I know that somewhere out there, a 70-year-old is cursing me in his sleep.)

Ten years is a pretty long time, but hey, it's the gameplay which counts. Why else would they be re-releasing FF6 for GBA thirteen years after it was produced?

But I'm curious; where'd you get the hi-res models patch? Are there any bugs?

I've now linked to the patch, it is a bit of a hassle to install, but so far it's not really affected gameplay much, since only the model files are changed...

They haven't replaced ALL the models yet, so sometimes you see SD characters walking side by side with the new models, which may spoil the experience somewhat...
